Hotels Near Gaudi's Cathedral - Barcelona, Spain

Gaudi's Cathedral pictureDesigned by Antoni Gaudi, the Cathedral in Barcelona is one of the single most impressive buildings in the world. The construction began in 1882 and one year later Gaudi took over as project director, a post he held for forty years while the Cathedral was being built. Gaudi died in 1926 and sadly never saw the completion of his masterpiece. In fact, the Cathedral is still unfinished and work on it continues to this day. Despite the enormous presence that this Cathedral has and the symbol that it represents, it is not Barcelona’s first Cathedral which dates back to the 13th century, but instead is more commonly referred to as the city’s third cathedral or to give it the correct local name Temple de la Sagrada Familia – either way it is a magnificent piece of infrastructure and no visit to Barcelona is complete without it.
