Paris’s most famous structure, the Eiffel Tower is an imposing 324m in height and weighs over 10,000 tonnes. Built back in 1887, it took a little over two years to complete and was built by Gustave Eiffel for the Universal Exposition to commemorate the French Revolution. It was actually designed by Stephen Sauvestre and this formidable tower reigns supreme over Paris, particularly at night when it’s lit up. It remains one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world and in 2005 held court to over 6,000,000 visitors. It is simply impossible to go to Paris and not go to the Eiffel Tower, put it on your ‘must do’ list straight away.
